New things learned at PULiiMA 2019

Posted on: 31 August 2019, 8:38pm

The Language teams travelled to Darwin last week to take part in the bi-annual national language meeting and the First Languages Australia (FLA) meeting.
Puliima is all about celebrating the Indigenous languages of Australia and sharing ways of reviving, recording and retrieving the languages with the use of modern-day technology.
This year being the Year of Indigenous Languages meant we had more to celebrate.
The PAK team took part in week-long workshops and gained valuable skills and knowledge to use in the future to undertake language work.
Lennie Barton and Vanessa Dixon said the workshops were great and gained lots of expertise.
They had a lot of fun meeting all the other people from around Australia and the world.
Sharing language with the 500 attendees over the five-day event will long be remembered.
Language centres from around the globe united at the FLA meeting to discuss the development of an award to cover language centres and other issues impacting them across Australia.
PAK will be co-ordinating and holding the next WANALA (Western Australia and Northern Languages of Australia) meeting in Perth next year, which the teams are looking forward to showcase the languages of the Barkly region.
